Wyoming's Padre: A Cowboy Priest
A deeply personal biography and narrative of a beloved priest who made an immense impact on his Cowboy State of Wyoming. Father Carl Beavers had a special way of relating to homeless children as well as heads of state by telling it like it was. A pastor, a civic leader and a sportsman, Father Beavers responded to his calling and lived an extraordinary life of service. He was truly Wyoming’s Padre. He loved Wyoming as he loved Jesus. When he was the head of St. Joseph's Children’s Home, he mentored young men by working alongside them. As Chaplain of the Wyoming Senate, he guided the state's leaders through some of their darkest hours and represented them at a joint session of the US Congress. He was loved by parishes in Sheridan, Laramie, Torrington, Cheyenne, Jackson Hole and Rock Springs. He bestowed great gifts and grace upon his parishioners and friends, challenging the people of Wyoming to persevere in difficult times. Wyomingites are reserved, so the gathering of these stories was no small task. Father Beavers was a gifted speaker and writer.
The first section of Wyoming's Padre follows Father Beavers' upbringing in Powell and his journey across the state as a man of the cloth. The second part features his own words, on subjects such as love, hate and everlasting life. These words are excerpted from his speeches, prayers, eulogies and literary essays. The third part is his eulogy.
We hope this book inspires you to live like Wyoming's Padre did, dedicated to a life of service to God and his people.
Wyoming's Padre is available at the Jackson Hole Book Trader and Wilson Book Gallery.
This is a free event. Masks are required.
