OUR STORY

A COMMUNITY

As a locally-owned, independent bookstore, we provide locals and visitors with new, used, and rare books. For over two decades, we have been a place where readers find their story and where authors find their audience. Dean Stayner, the original visionary behind the Jackson Hole Book Trader, opened its doors in 1998. Between building his shelving by hand and thoughtfully stocking it with second-hand and collectible books, Stayner created and grew a true community bookstore. He eventually added new books to the store’s offerings, and ushered it into the internet age.

In 2017, book lover, longtime local, and former store employee Susie Temple purchased the store. Realizing her distinctive vision for a community bookstore, she updated the store’s interior and its collection while maintaining its distinguished place in our community.

On any given day you will find our book-loving staff ready to welcome you. We truly believe in the power of books — they tell our stories, bring us together, and take us deeper into the many layers of the world.
